Hello Lovely Readers,

Here is a super cute DIY perfect for dorms, apartments, lounges and all. Turn everyday crates into extra seating, or a storage ottoman with a couple easy steps. Definitely Read her directions because she had a little slip up that makes or breaks these cuties as extra-storage.

Decadent Dorm Desk Decor

Hello dearests,

Like many of you, I can’t wait to get back to school. In the mean time I’ve been looking for unique dorm room inspiration. Right now I’m focused on desk areas.  Here are a few of my favorites from across the web.

What’s inspiring you in dorm decor these days? Leave it below!

A Few of My Favorite Things!

Hello lovely readers,

You may or may not have noticed often times I will feature an etsy shop in my posts. Well just as a little extra does of appreciation I want to highlight a five of my favorite Etsy shops. If you don’t know, etsy is an online haven of insanely talented independent artists, designers, chefs, and jewelers (basically if you name it, they probably sell it). Shipping varies from seller to seller but most shops include rates to Canada, Europe and the U.S.

Lola’s Room is an adorable photography shop from the UK. Owner Cassia Beck describes her photos as sweet and nostalgic, and  I whole heartedly agree. Not to mention, she’s having a Christmas in July sale right now on top of her already reasonable prices.

Miss. Brache has been a favorite formal dress shop of mine for a while now. Specializing in pretty pin up styles, the dresses are customized to your size when you order. Definitely check her out!

I found Ever So Lovely while looking for local etsy shops. I was first drawn in by its location at the heart of North Carolina and their dogwood blossom banner, but I stuck around for their simple sweet and classically whimsical jewelry.

Lastly, I’ve been a fan of GloryBDesigns for longer than I can remember, and they never fail to inspire me with their repurposed and restored furniture and housewares. Their finds are not only carefully curated but they’re fun additions to any room.

Okay, that’s all for now. Hope you enjoy some of my favorite etsy shops! Please don’t forget to sing the title to the tune of the Sound of Music. :)

Dorm Daze

Hello all,

I know it’s early, I don’t go back to school until August, but I’m pretty excited. I’ve got a new space, all too myself (that’s right no roommate) and to boot, it’s not a shoe box (not that my room last year was, it was actually pretty lovely.. but anyways). Hard wood floors, two large windows, a nook for my bed, (or desk and bookshelf) I can’t decide… and a wing-back chair I’m upholstering and bringing along. It all spells out a space worth getting excited for.

If only I could decide on my style path. I’ve lingered on eclectic colorful, lush blush, country cozy, and some sort of vintagey-jewel toned thing I haven’t gotten a name for yet. However, nothing is sticking quite yet. So I thought I’d share a bit of inspiration I’ve been eyeing.

Clean lines, romantic arches, idle floral prints, eclectic frame collections, marigold and rose and muted pastels. They’ve got my head simply spinning.

What to you think? Got a favorite style or go to palate? Help me out! leave it below!

When in Rome…

Or more specifically, when decorating think like a decorator. It’s the perfect season for airing things out, rearranging, repurposing and DIY updates but with all that hubabaloo you might be feeling a bit lost in the maze. You want something, but you aren’t sure what, or how to achieve it. I’ve been there, believe me.

To help you through, here’s a link ( help! ) in which seven professional designers help you unravel the tangles in your design. Whether you are painting, rearranging, or accessorizing they’ve got your answers.

Yes You Can!

Hello fearless readers, do it youselfers and crafters!

I’ve got a bit of news, which I will share in a later post, but at any rate, it’s going to allow me to have a lot more time for my own do it yourself projects! Get ready! Due to these changes, I’ve decided to separate my DIY projects from some of my internet finds on other fabulous blogs. From now on, my posts will be original, or my attempts at some of my favorite projects. Never fear! I will still continue to highlight my favorite DIY posts across the blogosphere on a my new Do It Yourself Page! Click the tab!

Have a suggestion for the list? Leave it in the comments or DM me on Twitter @EastCoastEle!

Dorm Decisions

Rug: Ikea,   Art:Etsy, Duvet:Ikea, Lamp:Target, Towels:Target, Basket:Target, Floor Pillows: Urban Outfitters,  Large Throw Pillows: Etsy, Floral Throw Pillow: Ikea

A little advice…

#1 Don’t feel like you have to buy everything from the prefab dorm area in Target, Walmart, Kmart.. etc. Do take advantage of the steals in these areas though! You know what I’m talking about, all discount stores have them, entire areas devoted to the average American teen dorm room, where they have the same three lamps, bed spreads, and cube ottomans in nine different colors. Not only will you get bored looking at an entire room of lime green basics, your room will also be twins with the five kids down the hall.  You want your space to be personalized to you! Not a different colored clone of 478,438,457 other incoming freshman.

#2 Do invest in creature comforts! Book lovers bring your books, fashion addicts bring your magazines, constant crafters bring your supplies. You won’t feel at home if you left a huge part of yourself back with the rents. Believe me, you’ll make room.

#3 Don’t forget the little things. You remembered the laundry bag and the trash can, but did you remember detergent and trashbags? Here’s an ultimate packing list, use your own judgement though, there’s a couple things on this list ( hot plate, iron) that most universities don’t allow. Rainboots! Do not forget them!

Alright, that’s all for now, but I’ll be giving more tips and tidbits through out the summer to help you guys get prepared for the begining of the best part of your life so far!
